An Unlikely Pair or Not?

It was one of those things.

Gene Simmons or Chaim Weitz (Hebrew)

Gene Simmons or
Chaim Weitz (Hebrew)

Had I not seen it for myself I would not have believed it.

Gene Simmons, the hard rocker of KISS, speaking out on behalf of Tim Tebow?

Gene Simmons and Tim Tebow on the same team?

Actually yes. His LA Arena Football team. He is actively recruiting Tebow to play for the team he owns.

The group “KISS” was very popular when I was growing up, but I never listened to them nor did I have any desire to watch their vulgar acts and shows.  Simmons wasn’t shy with his lewdness or improprieties.

After delving into this possible “odd couple” my husband told me to watch a video of Simmons speaking about Tim Tebow.

I was shocked as I heard him defend this man of God for his Christian faith. He continued to politely but with strong firmness extend his wrath toward the media and anyone who would persecute him.  His words were not that of an aging rocker but an avid spokesman.  It was apparent this man left his costume years ago and took on a career as a very successful business man.

He was wise with his fortune from his guitar days of KISS.

The hard rocker is now worth 300 million and owns or is partnered with numerous outstanding companies.

Gene Simmons speaks 4 languages: English, Hebrew, Hungarian and German.

I must admit judging from his horrid past it was evident he was made of a lot more than ugly face makeup.

Reading his bio as my husband and I tried to understand his position which seemed so out of character, I discovered he is an Israeli born American whose heritage has come alive.

In March of 2011 Simmons returned to his homeland of Israel. He describes the visit as a “life-changing event.”  After the trip he told how he still feels like an outsider here in America, but loves this nation. In October of 2011, 6 months after this change, whatever it was he married his longtime live in wife, a former playboy playmate.  Prior to that his views on marriage were against the institution.

He is now a staunch supporter of conservatism and regrets voting for President Obama in 2008. His reason? Beginning with the President’s venture for Israel and the Palestinians to go back to the 1967 settlement lines, Obamacare and the U.N. which he describes as “the most pathetic body on the face of the earth.”

As the President continued to de-militarize our military, Simmons began to disagree more and more with the Obama Administration.  He supported the war in Iraq and President George Bush’s stance on foreign policy. He voted for Mitt Romney in November of 2012.  He is quite open about his change of heart in politics.

In his own words:

“I’m ashamed to be surrounded by people calling themselves liberal who are, in my opinion, spitting on the graves of brave American soldiers who gave their life to fight a war that wasn’t theirs…in a country they’ve never been to… simply to liberate the people therein. I wasn’t born here. But I have a love for this country and its people that knows no bounds. I will forever be grateful to America for going into World War II, when it had nothing to gain, in a country that was far away… and rescued my mother from the Nazi German concentration camps. She is alive and I am alive because of America. And, if you have a problem with America, you have a problem with me.”

So….a partnership with Tim Tebow isn’t so bizarre after all.

Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow

Ummmmmmm……and he has never been a politician?

Psalm 125: 5 “Peace be upon Israel.”

Football Players don’t Walk on Water

This may come as a shock to some of you but I am not a football fan.

Believe me I have tried to be. The sports junkie in me has never been able to adopt the hard knocks, driven tackles and obnoxious coaches.

The dangerous game of football has nothing on Russell Crowe. “The Gladiator” may have experienced concussions, broken bones and even death, but football is right behind it.  At least the pros make enough money to put their bodies back together once they turn 40 and can’t move.

Questionable behaving fans screaming from the sidelines like life depended on the next touchdown.

Cheerleaders throwing each other around, swinging pom-poms and shouting,

“Let’s go! Let’s Go!”(Go where?)

Besides the fact I live on the east side of two of the most competitive college teams in history is a threat to my intelligence. These seemingly two menageries have been fighting each other on the field for decades. Yes, that is what I said. Menageries as if the teams are on exhibition for exotic actions in the end zone.

Add to these two is our Pastor’s team and you have the Gamecock Tigers fighting the Florida Gators. He is hard pressed not to keep his team out of a sermon.

And if the battle isn’t bad enough on the field, the fans are tailgating, chicken eating, and beer drinking buddies who make “the game” a conversation piece run wild.

Not that I was ever a NC State or North Carolina fan somehow my allegiance is there only because it is my home state.

But betraying that non-allegiance is not something I can bring myself to do. I must admit the two NC teams are just as bad as the SC teams when it comes right down to their field of football dreams and loyalty.

The local TV stations are all about football. Not only is the coverage spread across the state from August to December, you read about it on billboards, in newspapers and observe the collegiate flags flying around neighborhoods.

Our society’s culture is a picture of sports. We live it. Breathe it. And love it. The national past time of sports is big business.

Football and the American obsession with it is an example of where our priorities are. It is one of many sports keeping our attention. It may not be sports; it could be any one of many diversions from life.

Whatever the compulsion or fascination we are swayed by such neurosis as an escape, stress reliever or entertainment beyond infatuation; we are simply making a King that cannot save us.

Life needs balance; and priorities should be in order of importance.

Especially during football season.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is an appointed time for everything.  And there is a time for every event under heaven.”

What you think about the “King” matters…..

Many in the Christian community sound confused or perplexed about their faith.

Reconciling the differences between groups of people and their belief systems has become volatile.

Eating chicken on August 1, at Chick fil-A became a hate filled sandwich. Anyone who darkened the doors of those restaurants was labeled a bigot, prejudiced or politically intolerant.

Truly understanding the Christian faith is based solely on knowing Jesus; and knowing who we are as individuals in Jesus.

The enemy is doing a number on us to create divisions, hostility and scorn. What appears to be vile and distorted hatred is simply disagreement.  The devil has blinded people into believing Jesus was an oppressor, against women and anyone who didn’t agree with him.

That is a lie from the pit of hell.

Maintaining a Biblical view gives the answers we need.

Without the authority of Jesus, we would all want to live our own way. Talk about the “Clash of the Titans.”

Christianity is not a religion. It is a personal relationship with Jesus.

Jesus just works. The Bible is his handbook.

He is the cornerstone by which we need to live by.

Our Pastor spoke it unequivocally and quite eloquently. He said,

“What you think about the King, matters.”

What place if any does the “King of Kings” hold in your life?

5th?

3rd?

2nd?

10th?

First?

John 8:31-32 “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

In our endeavors to understand Jesus, we have it backwards.

Christians are trying to figure out how to fit Jesus into their lives, when it should be the other way around.

We should be trying to fit into Jesus’ life; searching for him and seeking his presence.

We should be climbing the hill of Golgotha.

Once you start this process, God will open up his heart to you. Little by little he reveals who he is; his character, personality, and his redeeming love.

Understanding begins in his presence; knowledge and wisdom become prevalent through his word. The Cross becomes more than the pendant you wear around your neck, it is what defines you.

Proverbs 2 is the best explanation of resolving the issues of right or wrong.

The world view is setting the stage for our thoughts and behaviors when we should be speaking forth the wisdom of God. Questions like,

“How can Christians line up to eat chicken when Dan Cathy has intolerantly spoken out against Gay marriage?” He supports the Biblical view of Marriage. The fact that he backed up the Bible is what people screamed about. 30 years ago Gay Marriage was never mentioned, much less deemed a political statement or an acceptable lifestyle.

So if the Bible has never changed its stance on marriage, then what right do we have to do so?

Or

“How can the general public not understand the President’s desire to help the poor and needy?” Well, you don’t rob Peter to pay Paul. God provides for his church who then provides for the poor and needy.

Answers are floating around in the world of media translated by those who know nothing of Jesus, don’t care to know him and desire to live a life without him. Only Jesus is the basis for all answers.

There is the world’s way of doing things and then there is God’s. Discerning his will is the only way we will succeed.

Each one of us must decide how to fill the voids in our lives. If it ain’t working, then maybe you took the wrong turn.

Once you learn who Jesus is, who you are in his life, the answers to these deep seeded questions become clear.

The questions don’t require asking everyone on the block or reading the latest news for their opinions.

Your relationship with Jesus gives you the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to clarify decisions according to his will and teachings.

Some issues are derived from a “knowing” Jesus gives you. Like an automatic door, you “just know” if you should walk through the door or not.

When we allow Jesus to change us, we become more like him.

As you grow in Christ, your thought process will reflect his.

What you think about the “King,” matters.

All is right with the world….

It is rather remarkable that we are here now; on this earth at this time.
We are a chosen few to live in these days.

Our world is in famine, war, cultural adversities, and moral decay,
natural disasters gone wild and evil dictators who kill their own people.

Media bias, crime and violence, job loss, sickness, depression, terror,
hate filled protests and a government that believes money
grows only to spread the wealth.

Drugs are running rampant, alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy, no money, bankrupt cities,
divorce at over 50%, infidelity, scandals and a Vegas party in a hot tub using your
hard-earned tax dollars to fund their fun.

Movies and television couldn’t get much worse (or could they)
Christian persecution on the rampage, boycotting chicken and children starving.

Dysfunctional families, wasteful spending, divisions among friends, political fights,
assault on free speech, educational decline, and neighbors who hate cats.

Offenses, overextended expectations, fraudulent government programs,
civil unrest, religious debates, social media frenzy,
and parents who spar at their kids sports events.

There are countries with nuclear weapons, gun control, and assaults on the family,
church attendance decline, movie theater massacres,
and a government who believes in everyone getting their fair share.

Economic collapse, debilitating diseases,
drought, lack of integrity, loss of truth,
healthcare mandates, homosexuality and
a nation that has fallen from grace.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

All is wrong with the world gives precedence to God showing up and showing off.

When you think it can’t get any worse God will perform outlandish miracles,
signs and wonders, and send an army of angels.

While it all appears to be falling apart is God’s cue to come rushing in
to save the children, rescue the lost and appoint leaders.

Jesus will appear in dreams, cultivate the needy, send shepherds to his worn out flock.

Diseases will disappear, families will re-unite, and crime and violence will be defeated.

Provisions will be dispersed as bread and fish, Tim Tebow’s will be born and the lame will walk.

Hearts will be changed, prisoners freed and the homeless given shelter.

Holocausts will end, dictators will die and addictions will be delivered.

Enemies will become friends, God will go back to schools, and persecutions will diminish.

Marriages will be saved, churches will be filled with the Holy Spirit, and healthcare unnecessary.

Perversions will cease, veils removed and truth will emerge like the rising sun.

Hollywood will be still and know that God is God and Michael Moore will beg for Jesus to be his Savior.

Greed will cease to exist and scandals will be written in the sand; justice will be served.

Prejudicial favoritism will be silenced, gardens and farms will flourish with abundance and chauvinistic governments will be removed.

God will blow in like a mighty wind chasing evil out in a word.

We, people are living these days. History repeats itself. Persecution and revival arriving in parallel time.

As Christians are beaten, shut out and deemed intolerant, we also become victorious. In times of hate filled bigotry toward God’s people, the church will rise up acquiring a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit.

As in the past, it is during these miserable eras the lights begin to flicker. Cold hearts melt as Jesus instills his truth. Lost souls are gathered into his fold receiving the wealth of his love.

Acts 17: 26-27 “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.”

If you feel as if the world is caving in, hang on. Realize you were chosen for this time and place specifically by God. Out of all the past generations, you have been selected to live during these last days.

Yes. All is right with the world.
