Resurrection Day: A Coming Together

For the one who seeks, searches and yearns to get to know the Savior, there is one moment in time unlike any other.

This flash of revelation makes sense of everything.

The why, what, who, when and where of life is answered in an instant.

It is a “coming together” of the spirit, soul and mind centered on Jesus.

Questioning how a person can be the solution to every problem that has ever existed seems impossible, but it is what it is.

In the blink of an eye God will reveal truth; pure, unadulterated truth in the form of his son. Genuine life given to all mankind out of the simple love of God for his children.

Beginning this journey can come in the humor of God’s character even for the seriousness it represents.

God is God and he can do what he wants, when he wants. He has a wild imagination when it comes to saving souls; even to the inspired use of props unlikely fitting for his purpose. But it works.

Whatever he uses, be it a friend, book or movie the end result confirms the death and Resurrection. Somehow it leads to that hill of death.

As the horror sets in of the Cross of Christ, that moment in time places the searching soul at his bloody, pierced feet and nailed hands. Noticing the beaten and bruised body, and the disfigurement of hatred the reality that the lost soul had as much to do with Jesus crucifixion as the Roman soldiers did who physically hung him.

Understanding his misery, pain and agony is the stepping stone of why he went through the worst death in history. Every sin is re-posted on that cross but his blood shed cleared the defendants who committed them.

The repentant sinner’s heart is cleansed, purified and saved from eternity away from the Father. He has opened the gate and let us in.

There really is no comparable to match this outcome.

The “coming together” lends itself to total redemption for humans that don’t deserve anything good. If that doesn’t change a person, they haven’t truly been to the cross.

Folks this is no movie.

The hill of death may be today,

But as Jesus hung as “The King of the Jews” on Friday, his love for us looked past the pain.

Jesus was looking at Sunday.

The Art of a Good Pout

Manna must have lacked substance or flavor.

According to Exodus 16: 31 it was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.

It may not have been chocolate cake but it wasn’t Brussels sprouts either.  Considering the first time the Israelites found it, they didn’t know what it was. Moses had to tell them it was “food from Heaven” God sent them.

558801_478998265477642_1881911362_n

Now in Numbers 11: 8 the people gathered the manna and beat it, ground it or baked it. Using their creative talents allowed this food some versatility.

Sounds like a “meal made in Heaven,” not too heavy but healthy.

After a while, who knows how long, weeks, months or years they began remembering the aroma coming from their kitchens in Egypt.

Numbers 11: 5 memories of fish, cucumbers, melons, garlic, leeks and onions began to cause their mouths to water for fresh foods they ate freely in the “land of slavery.”

Now I must admit that eating the exact same food for 40 years could get a little boring, old and tasteless even with the “best chefs” from the tribes preparing it.

Pondering the gifts of God, his omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent abilities you would think he could come up with gourmet food every day.

Imagine plates of fresh cooked veggies perfectly seasoned to Emeril Lagasse’s taste. Add to that baked salmon, chicken or red meat of some variety (unless you are a vegetarian) plus a luscious Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream or a 3 layer Coconut Cake.

What if the Israelites could order their own meals in advance? What if God allowed them to choose from the same menu the Angels used?

How exciting would it be to look up to see your “hearts desire” of the freshest foods in the world falling before your feet?

But……there is really something to be said for being thankful. Knowing this 40 year long trek was originally meant for 11 days wakes one up to realize moaning and groaning isn’t worth it.

Eve-The-Bible-Miniseries

Eve-The-Bible-Miniseries

Do you believe God sent them manna over and over as long as they continued to complain?

As if the trip wasn’t already a consequence their sour attitudes may have condemned them to manna.

God enlisted their seasons of “pouting” and self-pity to many more years on the road to Paradise.

Somehow, I can’t imagine God enjoying a grown man who pouts. This self-inducing platform of “I deserve better than this” is a requiem for a violin.

I am not picking on men here, but let’s reference Adam.  He had the choice of whether to indulge his sense of taste or not. Eve didn’t force him; he allowed the temptation to get the best of him.

Yet, later when God arrives on the scene and asks why they were hiding? What does Adam do?

Pouts that Eve gave him the apple. You know the “she made me eat it” pity party.  If I had been Eve, Adam wouldn’t gotten a good slap upside the head with that one.

Crying over spilled milk, not getting our way or what we want are the works of fools. The “ties that bind” the nagging souls are left waiting in the wings of hostile takeovers. In other words the suffering consequences aren’t worth how juvenile and ridiculous one looks while the cracked doors of evil slip through.417763_423584534391748_119101852_n

Whining and complaining separate us from God.

And from each other.

The answer: grow up and learn to be more like Jesus.

Philippians 2: 5 “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”

Purpose

Just when you have no idea what you are doing or why you are in a place you are in, God shows up in the form of a purpose.

This display of his character is a leading often missed. It is in those times of bewilderment he reminds us of his goals, not ours. Making the mistake of “it’s all about me” is it is never about me.

There are those who are called to do the great work of missions, or the Pastors who shepherd the flocks of God.  Also many are gifted in song or the genius of a musical instrument.  Teachers somehow know they were born to teach and the joy of loving the work of a nursery comes naturally.

When you are blatantly not gifted to belt out Michael W. Smiths’ “Find my place in this world” or given the hands to flow over the keyboards of Grand pianos, resolve is a rite of passage.

The further I get into understanding the knowledge of God, the more he discloses his personal joy of surprise.  The unknowing of a purpose is or can be quite exciting because you never know what God will do next.

God loves to test his followers. Many tests have come my way only to fail miserably.  The plight of knowing where I belong has extended beyond the limits of what I can see in the natural. In this effort of unforeseen examinations, God is showing me what it really means to trust him completely.

Certainly the mastery of this level is far off yet moments of faith kick in and at times almost feel tangible. A good test is to go where you aren’t sure you belong or where you have no idea why you are there.  Doing so by faith in God, allows him to show up and sometimes show off.

Living in the center of God’s will is purpose. The goal to find a place of worship to call home has been a dilemma in the center of God’s will. How does that work? One party goes, enjoys and makes it their habitation. The other flounders, reaches, seeks and hunts for peace and acceptance only to be typecast and thrown under the bus.body-01

But….that is when God asks the hunter to have faith in him; not his people. “Go” he says and see what I will do for you.

The row wasn’t full. He asked if he could sit next to me. Struggling, he admitted he had a bad knee.

His baseball cap was loaded with military campaign stickers lined with WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Veteran letters. When asked what they were for, he responded, “Those are all the places I served and didn’t do much of anything.”

We both laughed and he smiled as I helped him get his jacket off.

He was a 30 year military man. His wife died around 10 years ago. His service career made me question how he had managed all 3 wars. His response was,
“well, I’m 93 years old, I think.”  Shocked at hearing this, he pulled out his wallet. His feeble fingers worked to get his VALID Driver’s License out. He pointed to the year of his birth: 1919.

“Yep. I am 93. That’s what this says.”

For the next hour I was enlightened to sit beside a war hero who had no idea he was a war hero.  6 years shy of being on this earth for almost a century, I sensed nothing but joy, peace and a gracious heart.communion-01

As I held his communion cup so it wouldn’t spill on his pants he said thank you. When it was over I helped him stand up on his weak knee. Taking his jacket off the back of his chair I placed it on his shoulders and helped him put his arms in the sleeve.

As we walked out, he asked if I came there often. “YES” I said. He told me he would look for me, gave me a big smile and said goodbye.

I ran to my car in the pouring rain. Thinking to myself “he thought I was helping him.”

But I was the one who was blessed.

And then I heard God laughing.

“Ribbing”

untitledAdam and Eve. The first two people ever created. We all know the story of how Eve was created from Adam’s rib. So the “ribbing” began! LOL!

Seriously, why did God create two humans like them?

Genesis 1: 27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Maybe God wanted us to imagine what he looks like since he made them in his image.

Then verse 28 says, “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.”

So God says to be fruitful and multiply; in other words “go have a bunch of kids.”

Somewhere between Adam and Noah other people were born. Cain and Abel, Enoch, Mehujael, Methushael, Lamech, Zillah, Tubal-Cain and a sister named Naamah to name a few. Adam lived to be an old man of 930 having had sons and daughters according to Genesis 5: 3-4.

Just for the sake of question lets change things up a bit.

What if God created he and he and she and she instead of he and she?

The result would be 4 people on earth.

And no more. Why?

Because the Bible says Adam and Eve were to go and have a bunch of kids; not he and he and she and she.

Pro-creation would not have been possible leaving the world to end in the first few chapters of Genesis.

But…..since the Bible HAS been written from Genesis to Revelation mankind has lived and will live until the end of the “good ole’ book.”

Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed as a result of sexual immorality including homosexuality.

The fall of Babylon was a direct result of violence, corruption and sexual sin of all kinds including homosexuality.

Judges 19: 27 speaks of perverted men in Ephraim. What resulted were consequences of war where 90,000 people died.

Romans 1 speaks of the many sins committed from pride, murder, deceit, sexual immorality and homosexuality. In Romans 2, God made it clear those with an unrepentant heart and stubbornness to commit such evil would suffer great wrath and judgment.

It really doesn’t matter what you believe; this is God’s word.

Homosexuality is an abomination to God.

No one is or was born gay. It is a clear choice and rejection of God.

There is no justification for a person who all of a sudden decides to change their gender because they believe they have discovered it. There is no discovery because it doesn’t exist.

The lie is a trick of the devil that is recorded back to the beginning of time. Along with this bogus ploy of deception is the idea we who have not made this discovery are to feel sorry for those who have and are to give in to their demands, expectations and to accept them for what they are.

Believing otherwise is a stamp of intolerance.

Personally, I have friends who claim this lifestyle and some family members. First and foremost is I am a sinner very willing everyday to ask for forgiveness. I have no right to judge anyone else and if I do, I will be on my knees.  However,

I love them but do not condone their sin anymore than one who gossips, lies or commits adultery.  Anyone who reads this post and judges me according to their position of so-called tolerance of this sin, needs to realize I have the guts to tell them the truth.  The truth set here, is about the concern I have for their place in eternity and the damage being done in the here and now.

Those who claim this lifestyle have set themselves up for a deadly trap; a sinister plan to gain total access to your soul by Satan himself. This is no laughing matter or anything to take lightly.

Physically speaking, pro-creation can only be performed between a man and a woman.

God didn’t create substitutes or alternates.

He created Adam and Eve.

Build it first: then pay for it or Pay for it first then build it. Which is it ?

While I love this state and the people, reading this story is a huge stamp of the obvious.  Wasteful spending is out of control due to lack of planning, unnecessary and ridiculous regulations and the idea if you “build something, they will come” attitude.

The theory is backwards. It should be:clyburn_transportation

“Pay for it first; then build it.”

Why do it the right way when we can collect the money from the state’s hard working earners? Who cares if it never gets built?

If you read the statistics of South Carolina University it is presently in the hole $6,000,000.00 due to low enrollment for fall 2013.

No wonder education expenses for college have skyrocketed. And this is only 1 element of overdue expense; the state is broke.

Over the last few years, we have seen a dramatic increase in college fees, add-ons and tuition. Having a college student in the house, the state university she has been trying to graduate from has multiplied the cost every semester.

From raising fees on books, parking stickers, keys, food, recreational activities, to tuition. The one that really takes the cake is the use of copy machines.

Due to the cost of paper and deliveries, the students can no longer use campus copy machines.  If they have a class with a paper due and no printer, they would have to go down the street to the local copy shop and pay for it. This was not the case when our daughter first started there.  It was included in the tuition. For many classes a large part of their grades come in the form of essays, articles or a lengthy critique of 40-50 pages. Now, having to pay for copies that many pages could rack up an extra expense students don’t have to begin with!

Forget graduating in 4 years now. Credits don’t transfer, certain classes are not offered every semester, or aligning classes depending on the course numbers make it difficult to fit in an 8 semester schedule.

From what we have experienced, once you are enrolled you won’t get out anytime soon!

The truth is this mess with South Carolina University may be part of the reason our educational system is in dire straits passing on the cost to enrolled college students parents who are paying for it.

Reading this article discloses many issues that lead me to believe this project should never been started much less finished at this point. Some were out of their control, but most rely on tax payer dollars. The determination of funds missing and questionable money transactions along with multiple staff problems leads me to believe it was unorganized from the beginning.

But the point that ignites fuel is our Representative James Clyburn who is from my district and an alumni blamed this on partisan politics when he said and I quote,

“The faculty and the school have become victims of vicious manufactured attacks by political partisans, and that is unfortunate for the university and the students who would benefit from this program.”

My thinking is if Rep. Clyburn wants to blame Republicans for mismanaging/wasting 24 million dollars of SC taxpayer’s  (including Republicans) money on a university supposedly being built in his honor then maybe he should have left Washington to build it himself.

And since he believes Republicans are the miserable culprits he continues to make us out to be, if he wants this project finished, he can collect the necessary funds from his Democratic cronies. If it fails, then he has no evidence to blame the conservatives.

Who changed the rules? The Ten Commandments

1.       You shall have no other gods before me.

What? U mean God is supposed to be first? Above everything and everyone?

America must be in real trouble then. ten-commandments

YES. AMERICA IS IN TROUBLE.

2.       You shall not make for yourself any graven image.

Do you mean like an idol? Does that include “American Idol?

OH PLEASE. GROW UP.

3.       You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

So does this mean I have to stop swearing? What about R rated movies? They sure do use foul language but I just ignore it. God doesn’t really care if we cuss does he? Think about it; everyone does it.

NOT EVERYONE. I DON’T.

4.       Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy

You must be kidding; I have no idea what the definition of “holy” is. So that must mean it doesn’t apply to me.

YEAH RIGHT. WHY DON’T YOU ASK GOD OR READ THE BIBLE?

5.       Honor your father and your mother.

My parents aren’t worth my time. They never did a thing for me. If anything they owe me.

GOD DIDN’T OWE YOU ANYTHING EITHER, BUT JESUS DIED FOR YOU ANYWAY.

6.       You shall not murder.

That one is easy. I would never do that. And the government has endorsed abortion. They also let out a whole bunch of illegal’s who were imprisoned for DUI. Oh. If they get drunk and drive, and accidentally kill someone that is not considered murder is it? It was an accident after all.

First of all go tell that to the mother who is barren. Just because the government endorses anything, doesn’t make it right. Second; illegal or not it doesn’t matter, it is still a matter of killing an innocent human being. Oh and you might want to steer clear of MADD. You know the group called “Mothers Against Drunk Driving?” They are on the warpath now since those prisoners were released. To be honest, a bunch of angry women are capable of almost anything. There is a scripture in the Bible they refer to a lot. It says,

Luke 17:2: “It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.”

UGH. YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE.

7.       You shall not commit adultery.

Oh wow. Now that is a tricky rule. Not sure I like it at all. What if I don’t want to get married? And I sure don’t want to be labeled a primeval! How embarrassing! What about all my gay friends? Does this apply to them?  The government and many people are endorsing it now?

First of all, the least of your worries is what you may be labeled. If you don’t want to get married, fine. Don’t have sex. With anybody.

Matthew 15: 19 “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies “(that takes care of a lot)

As far as homosexuality? First of all, no one is born that way. It is a choice and a result of sin. (Romans 1: 26-27) It is evil and straight from the pit of hell. Guess what God calls it?

Leviticus 18: 22 “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”

The definition of an abomination is: extreme disgust and hatred: loathing. A person or thing that is disgusting; an action that is vicious, vile, etc.

DO YOU GET THE PICTURE NOW?

8.       You shall not steal. This is self –explanatory. Anyone with any brains at all knows what this means. If not, then they need a new brain.

9.       You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Is this like accusing someone of something when they didn’t do it?  Oh yeah. This is just like Washington and our political leaders. They’re always lying about each other.

Don’t lie. Don’t perjure yourself; it is a violation or infringement.

It is kind of like the person who plays with fire. Eventually they get burned.

10.   You shall not covet.

What if I am envious or jealous?

THEN GET OVER IT.

GOD HASN’T CHANGED. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS HAVEN’T CHANGED.

AND THAT IS JUST THE WAY IT IS WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT.

Stained Plans-In admiration of Heather McCoy

Years ago I spent my summers working in our church conference center. Many wonderful and endearing friendships came out of those memorable seasons. And also some real jerks.

And there he was.  The man of my dreams.

Girls flocked around him.

Guys envied him.

Me? I just wanted him to notice me.

When he finally did, I knew I had met my first love. Ugh. Gag.

The next year in high school would be a very long one. Knowing that seeing him wouldn’t be until the next summer was excruciating.  UPDATE: he spoke to me one time.

The future held no other course but to once again see him from a distance.

What could be wrong? He came from a very prestigious family. Intelligent. Political minded. He spoke with clarity and as if he knew more than most. His looks sure didn’t hurt. He was perfect.

The last summer before college he was there. He had a girlfriend. She was there too.

My dream was shattered.

The first semester of college was extraordinary.

These were the days when you actually went on dates to get ice cream, or a good meal 25 miles away considering the food we ate was well, “mystery meat?”

Half way through the semester one of the college staff members invited me to a homecoming game at a nearby arch rival college.

Making a quick trip to the hot dog and coke stand but who do I run into?

Yes. He was right in front of me. And this time he really noticed.

He asked me for my phone number.

He called. We went out 5 times. Our last date he became angry over the most ridiculous and trivial matter. He dropped me off in front of my dorm and drove off. I never saw or heard from him again.

Good riddance jerk.

The pattern of always needing something to look forward to ran through my veins until one day God showed me that was no way to live.

Attempting to have a calendar of “fun” was forcibly changed.  Survival mode had set in.

Soon, the joys of looking forward to anything good became thoughts of waking up without being scolded or yelled at by a sinister husband.

That changed into thoughts of how soon and quickly can I leave him.

Once I became a single parent, even the daily hardships were so much better than what I had lived through with a possessive, controlling, compulsive liar.

10 years into the role of being everything to everyone, I yearned for peace and quiet; to be honest I wanted to run away. For most single parents, this is the life led.  Exhaustion, weariness, inability to do it all and unmistakably labeled. By then, just waking up and realizing I was still alive was my future plans.

I had all but forgotten what it was like to remotely think of having a vacation, or a day to myself. In fact, those thoughts rarely occurred and when they did I laughed it off as a silly notion. HOW DARE I THINK OF HAVING, MUCH LESS PLANNING A DAY TO MYSELF?

The man who knows the value of a good meal, is the man who is starving.

The woman who is ill knows the value of good health.

The family who lives in poverty knows the importance of having a roof over their heads.

Now the truth is I don’t make plans. God broke me of doing it so long ago that living one day at a time is my plan. Or God’s plan.

In the midst of all the years of pain, loss and difficulties God taught me so often we make plans that are stained with greed, selfishness and personal promotion.

Whatever our plan may be, if God isn’t in it, it will never live up to our expectations. Disappointment will be a dominate factor until we make up our minds to ask God what he wants us to do.

Blessings pour from the abundance God has for us as we learn that his ways and thoughts are always better than ours. Living for God one day at a time rejects any idea we are missing out on anything or are settling for less.

Heather McCoy is a perfect example of living life one day at a time. She understands the true meaning and importance of health.  While most of us take breathing for granted, Heather has waited her 20 years on earth to be able to breathe normally. She aligned her plans with God’s mission which has proven to be a miracle of healing.

Her walk has been in the classroom of God’s “divine nature.” She graduated from the college of God’s chosen.

As she continues to improve and recover from a double-lung transplant, her story is reaching people all over the globe offering hope, joy unspeakable and a love for living life as God intended; as a true disciple.

Heather’s cross has been heavier than most to bear but she learned early on from the Master Cross Bearer how to carry it better than anyone I have ever seen.

The choices or decisions we make often come back to haunt us.

Or end our careers.

Or land us in the hospital from a self-inflicted accidental wound.

Consequences may not show up for days, weeks or years but it is one thing in life you can count on. Repercussions don’t just go away.

Then there are those desperately stupid choices like:_TheBibleMiniseriesTrailer_712424367

Robber in bank in New York only gets away with lollipops.

The robber handed the teller a note and told her he had a bomb. She told him to fill out a withdrawal slip and he ran away but not before grabbing a bunch of lollipops from the bowl on the counter.

Watching the first two episodes of the mini-series “The Bible” again yesterday before the new one began at 8pm, I was struck with the absolute stubborn foolishness of Pharaoh. His refusal to “let God’s people go” was in an all-out effort to prove he was God himself.

I can’t believe he was illiterate or incompetent; unwise and thoughtless? YES.
Reckless and arrogant? YES. Cruel and heartless. YES.

His obstinate and pig-headed decisions initiated the ruin and downfall of Egypt and the loss of many lives including his first born son. So much for thinking our judgments don’t affect those around us.

The Walls of Jericho surrounded the Canaanite’s who inhabited the “Promised Land” of the Israelites. Before God sent Joshua in with his army to take it over, word had reached Canaan of “the God of Israel” and his power. They were filled with fear and yet they fought against them and lost.  What should they have done?

The Philistines persistent and inflexible desire to control and annihilate the Jews was met with the muscles of Samson, “The Nazarite.”  This fatal determination incensed him to the point of exerting his wrath on any of them who crossed his path. Having been chosen by God, his strength was unmatched.the-bible-episode-2-homeland

Judges 16:30 “Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.”

In the end, he killed nearly 3,000 enemies of Israel.

Who can forget the senseless and jealous acts of King Saul? As David, a shepherd boy killed the giant Philistine, he gained the love and adoration of Saul’s kingdom. He became an ardent swordsman in the army of the Lord. Saul was overcome with envy of David’s success and popularity; so much so it all but drove him mad. And I don’t mean just angry. Saul went mental.

Instead of embracing the love David had for him and the position God had crowned him with, Saul allowed his emotions to get in the way of living as a wise King.  He also put many including his own family members in harm’s way. He died a broken king due to his own idiocy.

The ages have not changed much. Stubbornness and unyielding pride remain in the forefront of society.

Whether it be an evil salute or suspicious ninjas we have not outgrown the vanity of an egotistical Egyptian leader or the smugness of a Philistine army.

When will we ever learn?The-Bible-Miniseries-300x199

The Net doesn’t always catch Fish

599131_10151372542779807_1139902426_nWhile mounting an initiative reaching out to the opposite side contains many elements of surprise. Done every day, charming words and phrases of camaraderie can foil the most unsuspecting foe.

The charming personalities or innovative schemes are surfaced ventures.  The line, “it is better to be safe than sorry” utilizes the efforts needed in dealing with the arms of flattery.

Proverbs 29: 5 “A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.”

If there is anything good resulting from the “snow job” it is they usually get caught but not until extensive damage has been done.

Trust is sacred or should be. Using it as “bait” is like throwing the fish back in the water after you have slit his throat.

Beware of those who hammer the nails of “charmed charisma.”  Intentions are not always as they appear, at least not at first.

Masters of the art of smooth talk is the demeanor they choose. Casting their lines to the innocent and naïve their underlying goal is to use and abuse. Seen as a self-promoter, each virtuous catch is one more notch in the ladder of their success.
