Watcha got goin on in your front yard?

There are few authenticates in life. As time passes what use to be genuine seems to have lessened at least in the minds of those who are intimidated by whatever it is.

I read blogs or listen to people who don’t believe the Bible is relevant for today. If it isn’t, we are in a heap of trouble.

If that is true how has the Bible survived? Oh yea, the interpretations change, words are twisted, it can’t be taken literally. Well then what can?

There has to be some basis of life on this planet outside of ourselves that makes more sense than we do. God knew what was going to happen when sin started. He knew we would need directions so he wrote them down.

Those who rationalize the Bible’s clarity for modern society must not know how to read very well. Or maybe they are stubborn? Think they don’t need direction like the rest of us? I can say this because there was a time I knew more than my parents. Yeah, right; that didn’t last very long.

I could say “how dare anyone believe they don’t need help or direction?” How ludicrous is it to believe so much about ourselves we are self sufficient? Oh. Self sufficiency leads us away from God. We just love to hold on to our pride.

What does the Bible say about pride? Proverbs 16: 18 “Pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall.”

So why is the Bible good for one and not for all? Who made that decree? We each get to decide whether we want direction or to fall flat on our faces? I can say that too because my nose has bruises from the last time I fell flat on my face.

Now maybe it’s me, but there ain’t no way a book could last as long as the Bible in print without God’s “divine intervention.”  Oh yea and on top of that it has had more sold than any other book in history. Now how could that happen? Some might say, “Great marketing.” Or “the Bible makes a beautiful addition to my coffee table.”

Well if it is sitting on your coffee table why don’t you read it? Don’t you hear it calling you? I finally listened one day and heard my Bible speak to me, “Cathy, please read me. I have wonderful insight and understanding to give you so you will stop falling on your face.”

All it takes is one good look inside and you are hooked. That may happen after you crawl out of that pit you dug for yourself or the moment of desperation that hits you there is no other way…..but whatever it takes. I can say that too because my yard is full of pits only now they are filled with the blood of Jesus instead of the dirt I was always maneuvering my way through. Those pits are no fun. I had one for pride, selfishness, greed, offenses, fear, doubt, worry, anxiety, etc. The list goes on and on and I am reminded every day how much I don’t want to go back into those smelly, nasty pits when I read God’s word.

Funny thing about the Bible now. I actually go through “Bible withdrawal” if I can’t really sit down and study it for a while. Use to be I thought it was boring…..now I am useless without it.

Once you start, you get this supernatural “cling” going on. Like eating that favorite dark chocolate or your American Express card; “you can’t leave home without it.”And whoever decided you can only eat one potato chip ought to be fired. BTW: I am fasting from potato chips for Lent. I haven’t even had one. lol

Wow! That was close! I had to stop and mop the kitchen floor. The pit of “slime” in the front yard had infiltrated the kitchen so I had to stop it before the house was infected. I feel so much better now.

The Bible removes the slime from our lives when we read it and apply it. The pruning, weeding and molding gradually affects us to a degree we want nothing to do with slime. Some may say that is “corny” but it sure beats feeling dirty all of the time.

Sadly we often don’t know how much filth and dirt have made a home in our souls until we start reading the Bible. If you’re like me you want all that nasty garbage out and the good stuff in. When wrong things leave your life, so does the garbage. Unfortunately, it doesn’t empty itself. You have to take the trash out, so you have an empty garbage pail for God to fill it up.

So tell me again how the Bible isn’t relevant for today?

Who says we need a GPS system? We already have one.

Proverbs 2:6 “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

  1. Love this! What a discourse on the Word of God! Great discussion, Cathy. 🙂

  2. Amen sister. Now, select a street corner to stand on and preach. (No experience necessary.)
