Dire Straits

Posted on

Reading the news makes me want to throw up. Watching the mass lies, mudslinging and vile hate spewed at Christians brings me to my knees.

Folks, we are in dire straits in America.

The blame game, false advertising and accusations run rampant.

Slander is prominent and people disappearing. When will it stop?

I was hard pressed to find any good news. At least this one is;

Pro-Choice’ Americans At Record Low, Poll Finds

This is just America, not the world. The evidence is clear the media is more interested in promoting civil unrest, murder and anything disgusting.

The tone is negative rhetoric. Big talkers acting. Feuds are fought with demeaning gabfest. It is embarrassing.

What is worse is people fall for the lies….because they don’t know the truth. If they did the news would be opposite.

In the last 30 years I have witnessed this country decline in roller coaster fashion.

Issues we never discussed have become mainstream. Issues we never heard of are FrontPage news. Issues once thought to be ill-advised, hush-hush or deviant are accepted as normal by those who wish to promote such shameful aversions.

Explaining that to a 23-year-old is deafening. They can’t relate. Sadly, the younger generation has no idea what Ozzie and Harriet represented.

God is speaking and speaking loudly. Actually he is yelling. If you are blinded or don’t know the word, you won’t hear him. But this is what he is saying.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Who does this sound like? Weren’t the Israelites a difficult bunch?

Unfortunately the Israelites don’t have anything on America. We are the most grumbling, complaining, and selfish, backbiting people on earth.

But God put us here for a reason. America was founded on Godly principles. America is God’s alternative to freedom for others. He has used our people to give generously, back Israel and seek peace in other areas of the world. He built this nation on Capitalism; free market and enterprise and a constitution based on his word.

America is a blessed nation or was.

We have to get back on our knees. Now.

The Stuff Between Your Ears

Posted on

Switch if off. Turn it off. Shut it down. And listen to God.

Our brains are overloaded. Our minds are being infiltrated with every possible thought imaginable. It is impossible in a society so technologically advanced to absorb the daily news, Wisteria Lane and government politics without losing some very important brain cells. And if that isn’t enough to enlist you to the local institution nothing will.

The enemy loves our busy minds. He uses them to his advantage. Unfortunately he knows more than we would like him to know. He knows what we like or dislike, our weaknesses and our fears. Worst of all is he is patient….his strategy is to take his time filling our loaded brains with lines like,

“You can’t do that. You aren’t skilled enough,” or “Go ahead. Jump in the fire. It won’t burn you.”

Hopefully jumping into a fire is an activity most of us would rather not do…but how often has he used other language to persuade us to believe him?

About 12 years ago I was a single parent, working and sick. The enemy is a coward. He used some of my sickest moments to fill my mind with deception, lies and vile falsehoods.

One night, lying in bed I heard the words, “You are going to die. Just give up. You will die and you ex-husband will get custody of your daughter.”

The devil was stupid. He should have known the one area that would keep me alive was my daughter.

At that moment I made up my mind I was going to get well and stay well because there was no way on God’s green earth I would let my ex-husband get custody of her. The devil’s words backfired on him reminding me of the one incentive to change my thinking.

God’s words are the opposite of the devil filled with love, hope and positive overtones. Positive thoughts give life, success and health.

The devil feeds us fabrications of fear, doubt, hate, and evil; anything to bring us down in despair, depression and even suicidal thoughts.

The key to determining the difference is God’s word. Learning his word expels evil. Using it, speaking it out loud will chase the enemy away. Avoid his negative, blurry, misrepresentations by not giving him a moment’s notice. Ignore him. Instead focus on God.

Have you noticed your thought patterns when you are tired? Have you sensed a shift from the positive to the negative? Have you thought certain thoughts and wondered, “Where did that come from?”

Be aware of what drops in your head. If it is distracting, dishonest or negative, don’t stay there. Renew your mind with God’s word; practice his positive outlook and believe it.

Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

This process takes time, effort and study, but well worth it. It is crucial to keep your focus on God allowing him to change your thinking.

Why? Our thinking affects everything we say, do, and how we act. Understand this is not learned over night. Don’t allow self-condemnation to set in which gives the enemy a foothold. Keep trying and trust God to teach you.

God reveals his character as we filter the evil out of our thinking leaving our minds free and clear to hear him. The importance of simplifying our lives increases the time we have to spend alone with God.

The devil hates it.

And God loves it.

Sesame Street, Chocolate and Chimpanzees

I have been waiting for this moment, this day for months. Pacing the floor, listening to hear those huge tires come roaring around the bend with my package. Yes. My package. The package sent to me by NONE OTHER THAN MY ACCOUNTANT!

Today is the day I get to pay more taxes! Yes! The Federal Government and 2 states have declared we are examples of this country’s best citizens!

We have been chosen to give additional money from our hard work to fund such projects as:

Sesame Street

Sesame Street (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

→$10 million for a remake of “Sesame Street” for Pakistan. I love children and can understand the need for Elmo in Pakistan. The children would most likely rather eat.

Haggai 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.”

→$765,828 To subsidize “pancakes for yuppies” in the nation’s capital. I love yuppies.

→The government blew $592,000 on a study last year to figure out why chimpanzees throw poop.  Ok.  I am moving out of the way of this one.

Luke 16:1-13The parable of the wise steward.”

→ The federal government gave the Hawaii Department of Agriculture $50,000 to help pay for the 2nd Annual Hawaiian Chocolate Festival. Now I love chocolate…why wasn’t I invited?

Proverbs 1:32” The prosperity of fools shall destroy them.”

→ The Virginia Commonwealth University received $55,000 in 2011 (part of a larger $170,000 grant) to study changes in the hookah smoking habits of students in the nation of Jordan. Sounds like my next vice.

Deuteronomy 8:18 “Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”

$96,000 on iPads for kindergarteners. These kids in Maine can’t add yet, but thanks to Uncle Sam they’ll never need to.

I have no problem paying taxes, but not for stupidity. Or Chocolate Festivals even as much as I love chocolate.

Besides not being in the mood I have a real disgust to fund hookah smoking habits for students in Jordan. (google had to explain to me what hookah smoking is.) Maybe that should be my next vice.

The money we make, the money we have belongs to God.  Do you think he prefers we spend it wisely? Use it for the needs of others like the Mother Theresa’s of the world instead of dispersing it on “pork?”

Wouldn’t it be exciting if we could choose where our taxes are spent?

Decide as God sees fit for us to use it for his glory?

Preserve that which is his kingdom on earth and promote the gospel?

Writing my checks under those conditions would be an honor.

Somehow allotting God’s money on why Chimpanzees throw their poop gives me very little incentive to write a check to the government.

Battle of Athens

Posted on

This is a film production, but the incident really did happen. Athens is about 20 or 25 miles north Cleavland, Tenn.

Please watch this to the end. This is the real reason why we have the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Someone had a conversation with an old man who had been a boy at the time of the Battle of Athens. His father had taken a part in it. The man remembered how his mother had been up all night worrying about her husband. In the morning the man said that his father came home, put his shotgun behind the kitchen door and sat down to his breakfast, and no one in the family ever said another word about that night.

Click the link below to watch.

This video shows what “we” the people can do when put to the test of restricting our freedoms. As the Bible says,

Proverbs 16:7 “When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.”

God intervened with these men as a result of their willingness to stand up for the truth. God fights for us in our battles which is made clear in the Bible. God outlines specifics in some of the wars how they were to be fought.

Side note: I have a particular interest in this event. Some of my husband’s ancestors lived  in Athens at the time this Battle took place.

I never claimed to have all the answers, but I found out where they are….

Posted on

Sometimes I am just plain baffled at people. I am talking to you Christians. How is it that people who have been there and done that seem to know less about being there and done that than those who haven’t?

This frequently happens and just did with me. Months ago I produced information about 2 colleges and their status. One has just announced this week it is cutting back jobs, degrees and departments by 25%. According to the College President who gave an interview with the local TV station Tuesday night, the strain of bad economy was the reason for this necessary conclusion.

A past alumni of my Alma Mater quoted I didn’t know what I was talking about. He disagreed with my reasons for the decline in Christian institutions including this one.

Was he there? Did he live there? Was he employed by this school? Did he walk the campus sidewalks everyday as I did? Did he witness first hand the decay of vicissitude brought on by those who deemed it necessary to open the doors to anyone to be considered tolerant or politically correct? Was he there as the pressure to engage in public policy invaded this Private Christian Institution’s Biblical foundation created decades ago?

No. Not to my knowledge.

I lived there for 17 years. I walked those campus sidewalks. I ate in their dining room. I wondered around the halls of classrooms. I knew many of the staff, Professors and students.  I went to church with them.  I married the Controller of the college who worked there from 1989-2007 until he got the boot. His father, my father-in -law was the Professor of Music there for 13 years until they fired him because of his age.

So how is it that one who has never been there or walked those campus sidewalks can possibly declare my points invalid? Does he think I am lying? Does he believe I really didn’t live there?

The reason? Because his agenda is to prove me wrong even if I am right. Get a life. Or better yet get a new Bible and then you will have a life! lol!

One who constantly has to prove they are right all the time is often times in need of something. I ‘m not sure what but it is exhausting.  I know I am wrong. People tell me I am wrong all the time. That is why I read the Bible. So I can learn.

Please allow me to clarify myself here.

My husband and many of his colleagues saw this coming. I saw it coming. Speaking out about it was lost in translation. Making the effort for needed Christian change was dismissed like a disturbing student.

They were warned by many. Staff members I spoke with years ago told me of this impending doom if changes weren’t put into effect then!  Those in charge refused to listen. Those is charge knew better than what the founding fathers did. Those in charge decided to go along with the crowd instead of the truth according to God‘s word.

The result? Loss for everyone involved.

Lost jobs. Lost benefits. Lost educational degrees. Lost students.

Christian institutions are failing not because of  bad economy, but because they have lost their focus on God. Just as our public schools. Just as our government. It is the same everywhere.

“When you kick God out, he walks away and leaves us to our own fate.”

That my friends is really scary. I know because I walked away and God left me all alone to live with myself. And it was no picnic in the park.

This soul is determined to prove I am wrong because he doesn’t want to face the truth. He doesn’t want to have to change his thinking because it would
require him to change much of his life and risk the ridicule for doing a 180.

I don’t really care if he thinks I am wrong. I am not in this for myself because if I was I would quit! It is no fun sometimes promoting God especially when shoes or worse gets thrown at you. He refused to accept even what the Bible said after I quoted a verse to him and he very slyly replied, “that is the Bible according to your opinion.”

Then read it for yourself!  Allow God to reveal to you what he wants you to know. Heck. I am just trying to be  a middle -aged messenger here so don’t shoot me.

The “easy way out” for me would be to just agree. At least words wouldn’t be flying at me like a bomb blowing up in my face.

But you see I can’t stop trying to tell people to read the Bible. I don’t have the answers, but the Bible does.

Call God. His line is always open. Mine isn’t. Anyway what else does he have to do? He has already saved the world! l0l! (just had to throw that in)
The point here is to show that no matter who you are, what agency you are involved in, where you are employed, your church affiliation, the government,  schools or whatever you claim the answers are in the BIBLE people!

” My opinion is worthless. I don’t claim to have an opinion.

I read the Bible because “I know nothin, I hear nothin, I see nothin without it.”

Our Government is not a Throne of Grace

Posted on

Once again I am surprised at the blatant blindness of people. You would think I would learn.  I am caught between their  blindness or  purposely don’t turn the porch light on? If one is truly blinded of God‘s word it is one thing, but to ignore the truth is another. What boat are they sailing on?

I wonder what God thinks about our welfare system. Now he is a great God of mercy and loves the poor.  In fact one of the church missions was set up to help the poor, the widows and orphans. James 1:27Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. ” This is the church, not government.

If God is a God of justice (Proverbs 31:19 “Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.”) he would want us to help the poor and needy. That is what I just said, the poor and needy. Not those who ride around in SUV‘s, have manicured nails, collect food stamps and buy alcohol and cigarettes with it. NO, I don’t believe that is what the Bible teaches.

Now don’t go jumping on me. If you believe for one minute I am not all for helping the poor, call my accountant.

God does not waste anything and he expects us to do the same. Do you think he approves of our hard earned tax dollars wasted on alcohol and cigarettes? What about programs that benefit one race of people over another? What about financial aid for college students who buy junk, candy, and items that have nothing to do with their classes? What about those same students who collect financial aid, go to school one semester and drop out? Do they pay that money back? Get my point here?

I cite those instances as I am well aware of this occurring right here where I live. These are just a few of the many  financial abuses of our government and the people who have a leak in their think tank pushing to raise our taxes, or borrow more money to make loans to groups like Solyndra. You know the company our present administration gave  500 million dollars only to declare bankruptcy? Wonder where that money is now.

It doesn’t have to be rocket science people to understand the laws of give and take. Our government takes, and we just keep giving. Does the government realize when they have taxed us to death we will end up like Cuba? What happens when the money runs out? What happens when China won’t lend us anymore money? Oh, I know they will run to Donald Trump and ask him for it. lol. Good luck Mr. Secretary of the Treasurer getting an extra dime from him.

The Bible is clear about being stewards of that which God has given to us.

Proverbs 13: 11 “Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, but the one who gathers by labor increases it.” In other words work.

Psalm 112: 5 “It is well with the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice.” In other words give fairly.

Psalm 37:21 “The wicked borrows and does not pay back, but the righteous is gracious and gives.” In other words, don’t take if you don’t need it.

Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have.” In other words don’t make money an idol.

Romans 12:13 “Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” In other words give of your own accord.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ” In other words, if people would read the Bible and follow it, place God first in their lives we wouldn’t need welfare, food stamps and other government agencies to provide for us. His riches come from Heaven and are infinite.

In other words, the government was never created to supply our needs. Only God can do that.

“I Love the Nightlife, I Want to Boogey” No, not really.

¿ Here we go again. Finishing one year and the starting of another. Many are making their so-called New Year’s Resolutions.

I have one.

To be different and not take the whole thing so seriously.

Some of you might be screaming at me right now. I understand. You are wondering how can I possibly undermine the contagion of “Occupy Wall Street” or a never ending Presidential campaign or the delusion that 2012 is the end of the world according to the Mayan Calendar?

God is in control. That’s how. If I didn’t have the close relationship that I have with him now, well, you could ask John if I could join him at Patmos.

You see, a few years ago I would have been like the majority of those who busy their useless lives with ugly clothes, far fetched entertainment and “I Love the Nightlife” existence. OHHHH, what a relief I don’t have to do those things to feel adequate!

Often before I begin a post, I surf the news stories of the day. Now I only do this to laugh at the silly stuff that is going on out there.

Who cares if Katy and what’s his name are getting a divorce? What about “stars without makeup? or better yet “8 Ways to get over your Hangover?”

Now I am sorry for Katy’s divorce. Divorce is messy, and no fun.

Make-up is necessary for most of us beautiful women but we were born without it! Do you think God cares whether we use Loreal‘ or Estee Lauder?

I cannot imagine going through 2012 without the incredible advice on how to get over a hangover especially since I don’t drink.

Is it me or am I just cynical? Are these issues on the top of our list of things to do?

Personally we need to understand those are petty and unimportant in the light of our surrounding impending doom. Shouldn’t we be paying our debts, lowering taxes, re-affirming  family values, and firing our political leaders? Our country is divided as it has never been before. They maybe don’t have the answers to those important questions but they can tell you how to look like Jennifer Aniston in 2012!

So I am laughing  now. Laughing because if I let myself I will admit how sad it is that our country has lowered our priorities to such a level of marginality. I don’t live in the same country I was born in anymore. Where did it go? I miss it.

God is our anchor. Jesus is the sail blowing us with his wind of the Holy Spirit. For those who don’t know this, it is mind blowing to me how they are putting one foot in front of the other without tripping. Maybe they can’t walk straight, maybe they are just acting. I hope that is the case because those of us who follow Jesus are having enough trouble walking behind him. Or beside him. Or wherever he is.

The story of Jesus calming the storm is where we need to be right now. In Mark 4:29 he commands the waves and  the winds to “be still.” Why do you think he did that? Do you think he is aware of the looming gloom facing us now?

Of course he is. God often reminds me he is everywhere all the time. He is not surprised by anything. He gets there before we do and usually much faster. He will contend with those who contend with us.

Holding those thoughts we have assurance of our futures arriving at the threshold of his presence.

In other words, he has been there and done that ahead of time; whatever it is.♥

All I Wanted Was Some Yogurt

Here we are the day after Christmas. It seems normal again. Not sure if that is good or not but it is what it is.

Español: Un Wal-Mart remodelado en la Ciudad d...

Image via Wikipedia

My list for a trip to Wal-Mart was ready even with my unwillingness to go. It is not my favorite hang out. Shopping there is out of necessity only.

In the back of my mind I thought, “I wonder if there are lines of people bringing presents to exchange?”  To my surprise, there weren’t many. In fact the store was not that crowded. Christmas must have been successful.

If Wal-Mart wasn’t over loaded with mundane, dissatisfied  customers who wanted to exchange that awful sweater for an even uglier pair of pants, Santa must have done his job despite the economy.

Now I want to complain.

Even though a flood of shoppers had not invaded the store, Wal-Mart had set up a rack of clothes a mile long in one of the aisles. Considering the large green carts and the in-considerate customers getting around this unsightly block of pajamas was like surfing in Nebraska.

Weaving in and out between colors of green, red and yellow I was drowning in a sea of smelly flannel. Memories of yesteryear flooded my intellect. My mother who was an excellent seamstress when I was a child made me go to the local pattern and material store so she could sew clothes  for money.  The minute you walked through the door you experienced a maze of every possible color God created. Along with the many shades and hue’s was a stench of fresh, new fabrics. Ugh. It made me sneeze and my eyes watered uncontrollably.

I am highly allergic to dust which I found out later in life. New fabric lends itself to excessive lent which is often accompanied by dust.

Fearing a recurring fit would invade my nose, I darted around people, carts and children. No one seem to care that I was running for my life. How do you explain to a bunch of after Christmas bargain hunters that I needed to escape this cataclysmic heap of flannel?

All of a sudden I found myself locked in a claustrophobic trap. People were not moving. Blocked in by screaming kids, carts full of more flannel, and displays of cosmetics I wanted to scream “let me out of here!”

Now this is where a Christian attitude should kick in. Instead of staying calm and peaceful, I stood there waiting with what I am sure was a face of impatient disgust. Did anyone care? No!  The bargain hunters wandered through the rack of pajamas cluttering up the pathway of the aisle keeping those of us disinterested in flannel from going about our shopping business.

In case you haven’t  figured this out, I don’t enjoy shopping; at least not anymore. The reasons why are for another day.

After a few more moments of blocked traffic I yelled, “EXCUSE ME!”  That got their attention. They moved out of my way.

Yoghurt and raspberries

Image via Wikipedia

Rather please with my authority I rode off into the free world of pet food, yogurt and sweet potatoes. Feeling free without watery eyes I went through the check out and left.

On the way home I thought, ‘hmmm, is it me or are people in general in-considerate?” Was I wrong for expressing myself in such a vocal cord?

No, I think there are many people who just aren’t wired to code. Their antenna’s are pointing in the wrong direction.

They are about as bright as a burnt out 20 watt light bulb.

Maybe I will suggest they ask God to  help them become one of those 60 watt light bulbs I wrote about yesterday.  If they insist on blocking traffic in the women’s underwear department of Wal-Mart, at least they could be a shining light for God while doing it.

Grow Up? Why?

Yesterday I posted a semi-rant after watching a video from Facebook  from someone who believes the “occupy wall-street” protestors had every right to protest. Yes, our constitution allows for that. BUT WHEN DO WE GROW UP?

Most of those protesting appear to be young people; by that I mean younger than I am. Thinking back when I was their age protesting was not on my agenda. Maybe that was because I was too busy trying to graduate from college and get on with my life. Did I miss something? Oh yea. They want that on their resume!

“I was a Wall-Street Occupier. I sat in the cold for days on end, slept in a tent with no heat and ate bugs. I deserve a job.” I don’t have that on my resume. Will protesting be a requirement now to get a job?

Growing up these days is hard, I know that. I heard the other day we actually don’t make wise decisions until age 50.

If this is true what about the other 49 years prior to the big 50? Does this mean we don’t have to be accountable for ourselves? Does it mean we are excused for our stupidity for the 49 years prior to this?  I wish I was younger so I could be in this category.

For those of us who have already gone past the 1/2 century mark are we to be placed in the stocks  for working, raising children and paying our bills on time because we are held accountable?  Are we excused for the 49 years prior because I just read this on yahoo the other day? If so, that isn’t fair.

To be honest I know people who never grow up. Do you know anyone like that? It is as if they are stuck. I wonder if they want to be stuck. What happens before that magic day of accountability  when life slaps you in the face with something you can’t handle?

Do you run to those who are occupying wall street? Do you run to another unaccountable person like you? Do you run to the almighty government?

No. You run to someone who is accountable. You run to someone who loves you. You run to someone with answers.

His name is Jesus

Remember him? The one your accountable parents taught you about? The Savior who died for you on a cross that literally changed the world? The Lamb of God who is always with you and  will be with you when your life falls apart?

My advice: It is time to grow up America. Stop your protests and complaining and realize you live in the most blessed country in the world. You might want to do that quickly before it all falls apart because when it does happen you might be fighting  for that foxhole the atheists have jumped into.

Occupy…..

I have decided that since the protestors are “occupying wall street” I want to occupy something.  Must be fun or they wouldn’t keep doing it. How do they keep doing it?

I guess it depends on what you are occupying. They have camped out on streets in big cities, and in front of capital buildings and businesses. Do you need a permit to do that? Those little girls this past summer selling lemonade on the street in front of their home were told they needed a permit.

Wonder what would happen if I decided to occupy my neighborhood. Do you think my neighbors would protest? Oh, they are nice people. They wouldn’t mind me walking around yelling ” I now occupy our neighborhood.”

Just think of all I could get away with. I could read their mail. Ride the pink bicycle across the street. Take their newspapers, read them and then throw them back in their yards.  Someone has a nice red Corvette parked in their driveway. Maybe it could be moved to my driveway.

Or what if I wanted to occupy the mall? Oh wow. Think of the stores I could raid. Clothing, shoes, phones, knickknacks. There is a nice area in the middle of our mall where I could camp out. The Sears store probably has a tent I could occupy. I will go there first.

You know what would really be fun to occupy? The Police Dept. Sure. I can see it now. Local Protestor occupies Police Department.” She has managed to fire all employees and re-hired the unemployed. Oh, by the way, the new employees are not trained police officers. They consider themselves to be vigilantes.

I must tell you what I would like to occupy the most. WASHINGTON! Oh, I can feel it in my bones. Driving to the White House in my new police car, I would step out and declare, “I now Occupy Washington.” The following are some of the changes I would make.

My first duty would be to clean house. I would get every one on Capital Hill together in the House and make them read the Bible out loud to each other and agree to govern accordingly.  If they disagree, they will immediately be replaced with a modern-day Moses, David, Paul or Ester.  I might throw “Matthew, the Tax Man” in to overhaul our tax code.

Next, I would  eliminate the debt, build up our military and throw Obamacare out on the front lawn of the Whitehouse.  I would set up a balanced budget, overhaul medicare and Medicaid and set into rule marriage is only between a man and a woman.

I would call into order anyone on welfare who buys beer and cigarettes, has manicured nails and fills their grocery carts with anything other than food they actually need. If they can work and are not, we will help them find a job. We will not throw a stimulus of taxpayer money to help them do it either.

Money wasted on such entities as Solyndra, Planned Parenthood and NPR will be immediately stopped and given to charities like the Salvation Army and Samaritan’s Purse.

Last but not least, our government will shrink to the size of a nickel. It was not created to do everything.

So, are you ready for me to occupy?
