God pulled a Joseph this week….

Posted on

Only his name wasn’t Joseph. His name is Dan Cathy. I am sure you have heard his name frequently; especially lately.

As the head honcho of Chick-fil-A, he may have never known the mud he would step in when he stood up for the Biblical view of marriage.

The firestorm began a few weeks ago as he spoke out publicly for marriage between a man and a woman.
What a shock. Who would have thought otherwise?

His family has run their restaurants for years as God guides us to in the Bible. Wonder if that has anything to do with their success? Duh….In 2011 their total revenues were at 4 billion dollars. That’s right 4 and a bunch of 0’s equals billions.

Once the words went viral, opposing sides of the Biblical view of marriage took to the airwaves ripping him apart, calling him a bigot, intolerant and a hater. Wonder if they called the President those names before he announced his stance for Gay marriage? If they did, I never heard it.

I have never met Dan Cathy but think he probably had some conversations with God like,

“God what is going on here? I have lived the way you want and run my business your way. Why have you allowed this? Why can’t they pick on cows instead of my chickens?”

In the midst of this raving mad hit on Christianity, God was working behind the chickens.

August 1, 2012, this past Wednesday had been declared Appreciation day for Chick-fil-A restaurants. Aiding this project was Governor Mike Huckabee who in a short span of 2 weeks spread the word via facebook, internet news and TV reports.

We wanted to show our appreciation for his stance on marriage and to enjoy some of his great food.

God’s people were hungry for his chicken. Wednesday, they turned out in droves across the country. Some restaurants ran out of food.

I didn’t get my chicken salad sandwich after waiting in line almost 45 minutes because there were none left.

People were consuming not only chicken sandwiches, but waffle fries, Peach milkshakes, nuggets, drinks and desserts.

As I stood in line the thought ran through my quick mind,

“I wonder how much money they are going to make today. And what will they do with it?”

What Satan means for evil, God turns into good for his kingdom.

Reading posts last night about the massive turnout one woman who was a Christian wrote that we should have donated money to Chick-fil-A so they could feed the hungry instead of people eating the food themselves.

Only God. As I heard Herman Cain today speaking to Eric Bolling of Fox News I got my answer.

He had spoken with Dan Cathy just yesterday as they have been friends a long time. Mr. Cathy informed Herman Cain they made so much money in that one day they were going to use the entire amount of profits to go to the charitable organizations they always give to. Only it would be records amounts of donations due to a record amount of sales from that one day.

So, not only did we get some great chicken, God is providing enormous amounts of money for his kingdom.

What began as persecution outright has been reversed.

What started as a war of words made a fortune for God’s people.

What Satan used to appear as despicable and full of deceit, God’s people rose up and shouted through the streets the truth without saying a word.

In a manner of consideration, a quiet and congenial protest brought folks from all over the country to tables of food prepared by the Almighty.

We enjoyed the camaraderie of standing in lines waiting for food, met people we didn’t know and observed employees who have been taught customer service God’s way.

Just like Joseph, God handpicked Dan Cathy to promote the gospel in his humble fashion and most of us unknowing of the outcome of what appeared to be a slam in the face of Jesus.

The bottom line is no one cooks chicken like God.

  1. Amen. You know when you pray for revival, you don’t know in what form it will come, but God always delivers on HIs promises.

  2. It was so amazing to be able to participate in Chick-fil-A’s appreciation day. We waited there for an hour and a half, but it was worth it!

  3. Great post, Cathy. I don’t believe I’ve ever eaten at Chick-fil-A’s, but I’ll definitely give it a try now. :)
    God Bless you & yours!

  4. Amen. I waited too. Because standing for truth is better than laying down for a lie.

  5. Super great blog today. Needed to be said!! We need to pray hard that more Christians will stand up for the truth of Gods word. We need to….fear not! Psalms 27:1-5
